When I was younger, I used to make New Year’s Resolutions and have lofty goals of losing weight, reading X number of books, or doing this or that only to be disappointed by being unable to keep them. As I have gotten older, I don’t make “resolutions” but try to take a look at areas in my life that need improvement or changes that need to be made. How is that different from a resolution? I feel like when I set resolutions, I almost set myself up to not keep them. Does that make sense? It’s almost like I subconsciously want to not keep the resolution because I know it’s a resolution!
Now that I’ve become a mom, it’s hard to find the time to evaluate my life and find the areas that need improvement because I don’t have a lot of time to myself. But one area that I do need to focus on is taking better care of myself. That may sound a bit selfish but the more and more I think about it, when I don’t take care of myself by not eating right or getting enough rest, I just can’t be a good mom, wife, or human being because I am just worn out and exhausted.
Something I really need to do to take better care of myself is to eat a good breakfast. I’m always making sure my daughter eats a good breakfast but I skip out on it myself because I’m so focused on making her food and doing housework instead of sitting down and eating when she eats. Breakfast is such an important meal of the day and I have to model how important it is by actually eating it instead of rushing around doing chores or prepping things around the house.
